01 / The house

Make yourself at home.

Saltfern House is imagined as a four-room bungalow set around a fern courtyard. The verandah stays cool through the afternoon, and the sound of the sea carries up when the wind drops.

Start with tea under the eaves, take the footpath down to the cove, and come back when the kitchen starts on supper.

04 / Around the house

Built for the shade.

Deep eaves keep the verandah cool. Louvered shutters let the breeze through, and a rain barrel supplies the courtyard beds.

Ferns grow under the trees, with lemongrass and curry leaves tucked into sunnier corners for the kitchen.
